GRAND FINALS REPORTS
It was a Grand Final weekend to remember with both our Third's and Fifth’s boys claiming the silverware to round off an incredible season for both teams.
Third Grade – Skipper, Clayton Waters, in his last game for the club, had no hesitation in winning the toss and batting at Mark Taylor Oval. It proved to be a masterstroke, with Jack Shelley (35) and Ryan Swain (52) setting the platform early. It was then the Jason Hayward (155) and Lachlan Ford (96) show, with the two men combining for a mammoth 210 run partnership which effectively batted Eastern Suburbs out of the game. Jason hit 24 boundaries in his knock which featured brilliant stroke play and composure throughout, with Lachlan hitting 13 boundaries of his own.
With Easts unable to take the 10 wickets they needed to have a bat, the match was deemed a draw midway through Day 2, with the Rangers capping off their undefeated season in the best way possible, with a premiership! Congratulations to all the Third Grade men on an absolutely fantastic season.
Fifth Grade – After losing the toss and being sent in, early wickets had the Rangers in a spot of bother at 3/22 but composure from Richard Johnson (33) and Mitchell Crayn (41) steadied the ship. Captain courageous, Pat Murton (15) once again showed his grit and determination and some solid late order batting from Alistair Weston (36) and Jack Nati (45) ensured that Gordon were set an imposing 230 runs for victory with 71 overs left to play.
Early wickets were crucial and Gian Gill (2/45 off 17) delivered however a few good partnerships had Gordon 4/126 in the chase, setting up a nail-biting finish. Buoyed by the support of the Third Grade men on the hill, the Rangers set up the win after Tea with some tight and disciplined bowling led by Anthony Bartlett (2/28 off 12) and Sri Narain (3/52 off 18) with Pat Murton taking the final wicket to cap off an amazing season for our Fifth Grade boys.
