HOW TO ORDER THE CENTENARY BOOK
On 7th Mar 2026 we will be launching Blue Gum & Willow,
A History of the Northern District Cricket Club, 1925-2025.
The Centenary edition of Blue Gum & Willow builds on the 75th edition released in 2001, authored by Alistair Kennedy. The Centenary edition has been jointly authored by Life Members Mike Langford and Jim Barrett with support from Alistair Kennedy.
This book is the official chronicle of our great Club and is an important record of the Club’s achievements over the past 100 years. It extends to over 450 pages. Accompanying the official history will be a second volume of over 160 pages detailing Club records and statistics, that will be available as a pdf file. If you or a family member or a friend played for NDCC you will find their playing records here. Life Member Hilary Griffith has played an
important role in compiling the statistical record of the Club and its players.
The Centenary edition includes important new stories and articles, premiership and Club Championship photos and of course the story of women’s cricket at NDCC.

RESULTS: NDCC PGs vs St George 14-12-25 MTO
A great win by the Rangers. Set the Saints 247 and dismissed them well short of the target. Addison Sherriff turned in a stellar performance with 84 runs and 8 overs 4/33.
RESULTS: NDCC vs Mosman 13-12-25 MTO
Can keep this short and sweet … Won 2nd grade! … Lost the rest. 1st Grade had a thriller! Mosman scored 268 runs. NDs replied with 9/267 (run out on last ball). Corey Miller 96 runs with 44 a piece to Dave Lowery and Addy Sherriff.
RESULTS: NDCC vs GORDON

1st Grade
A thriller against local rivals Gordon. Batting first, Corey Miller (83) and Addison Sherriff (66) held firm after early wickets. Early breakthroughs from Charlie Anderson (1/35) and Jordan Fullagar (1/16), followed by key wickets from Scott Rodgie (2/41) and Cam Tunks (2/23), had the Rangers close — but Gordon hit the winning runs off the final ball.
2nd Grade
A strong bowling display kept the Rangers on top of the table. Jack Cincotta (3/19) led the attack with support from young spinner Lachlan Bartlett (3/34). Chasing 143, opener Danul Dassanayake (83*) powered the side to a bonus-point win.
3rd Grade
A powerful all-round effort. Josh Bawcombe (50) set the tone, with support from Kyal Cruickshank (30) and Will McFadden (25). A match-defining stand from Nick Apps (60) and Matt Cole (48*) pushed the Rangers to 259. With the ball, Elijah Stead starred with 5/44, backed by Apps (3/39), securing a comfortable win.
4th Grade
Rain-affected but composed. Johnathan Stuart (73) and Josh McDowell (66) lifted the Rangers to 7/276. Gordon started well before spinners Lachlan Bailey (2/55) and Max Guazzarotto (3/47) turned the tide. Ahead on DLS when the rain arrived.
5th Grade
Consistent top-order batting saw the Rangers post 9/267, led by Riley McDowell (54) and skipper Alex Perry (47). In the chase, Gordon couldn’t build momentum as Abdullah Shaikh (4/32) and Sam Brown (2/18) sealed a strong victory.

It seems that Denis Lynch and Jim Barrett stumbles upon this story from the ND archives.
The Day the Poidevin-Gray Team Met the Queen
In the 1969/70 season the NDCC Poidevin-Gray Shield team won the competition for the second time in the Club’s history and the first time since the 1933/34 season.
The team was captained by Kerry Mackay and included a number of players with first-grade experience including MacKay, Ian Davis, Denis Lynch, Dennis Kimberley, and Robert Piper. The final was played against Sutherland over two Sundays at what was then the traditional home of the final, Waverley Oval. After winning the toss and batting first, NDs scored just 159 but managed to bowl Sutherland out for 108 with MacKay taking 5 for 32. NDs then closed out the game in the second innings finishing at 7 for 177 with Denis Lynch (54no) and
Barry Piper (21 no) adding 63 for the 7th wicket.
In recognition of the team’s achievement the NSW Cricket Association (NSWCA) nominated the team to attend a Young Peoples Reception for Queen Elizabeth, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales (now King Charles) and Princess Anne at the Trocadero Theatre in George Steet, Sydney on 1 April 1970.
The invitation from the NSWCA noted, “I should state that in submitting your Club’s Poidevin-Gray Team to the Royal Tour authorities my Association has every confidence that as well as being a most deserving and appropriate group to represent cricket in this State, the group will conduct itself at the occasion in the best traditions of the Game.”
As 13 players were in the team and only 12 were able to attend, a ballot was held and wicketkeeper Denis Lynch missed out. Providentially, the inability of another player to attend saw Lynch included in the party.
Denis has provided the following recollection of the event:
“The Queen, Philip, Charles (our age) and Anne (18) did a walkabout stopping to talk to people. The Queen stopped and spoke to me. " Why are you here" she said. I stammered out something like we won the cricket, and they said we had to come. "Oh" was the response as she moved on.
Phillip went past, then Anne who was stunning. Charles stopped to talk to Kerry Mackay, who was next to me. "Why are you chaps here". " Cricket your majesty" giving him a full bow.
Charles said, " I don’t like cricket" as he walked off.”
We are sure King Charles has since discovered a great love for the game!
