Back-to-Back Premierships

Our Under 16 Green Shield team have taken out the premiership after a heart stopping last ball win in yesterday’s Grand Final. Defending a below par 183, the boys never stopped believing, and held their nerve defending 7 in the final over. There were no long fingernails left at the ground as parents and supporters felt all levels of emotions in the great battle.

Congratulations to all the boys on an incredible campaign. The side remained undefeated for the full 7 rounds plus quarter finals, semi-finals and Grand Final.

Thank you to the umpires and the Parramatta team for a great GF. The contest was played in good spirit, as it was when the 2 sides met last year.

THE BYROM BOYS KEEP PERFORMING

While Green Shield opening bowler, Ed Byrom enjoyed the celebrations of GS premiers, his older brother, Will, was creating havoc on the World U/19 stage, capturing 5/14 off 6.5 overs. Ed was doing much the same in the Green Shield semi-final last week, taking 6/23 off 7.3 overs. In fact, Ed now has 2 Green Shield Premierships under his belt, as do … Lachlan Bartlett, Ed Byrom, Ulrich Vosser, Oliver Makin, Kirby Mulligan, Alish Harani and Arjun Singh. For Ed, that is 20 undefeated Green Shield games in a row! A great record to have. No wonder his parents are smiling! Actually, they are always smiling! Special mention to Alish Hirani for making the GS Team of the Year (296 runs at 74). Also to Capt Lachie Bartlett who had a great all-round season with bat, ball & leadership.

After winning the toss and electing to field, the reigning champions smelt blood from ball one to take a trio of wickets in a six-ball stretch that left the Lions reeling at 3/3 after just 20 balls. Only two partnerships from there on reached double figures, and even then, none surpassed the 12 put on for the fourth wicket as Sri Lanka were bowled out for a record low of 58. Opening bowler and New South Welshman Will Byrom was Australia’s main star of the show, claiming the stunning figures of 5/14 off 6.5 overs to put Sri Lanka to the sword. His bowling on a fourth and fifth-stump line caused the opposition trouble all innings, and set him up well to then bowl several wicket-taking short balls. “It’s not a surprise for me, he gets me out for fun in the nets! I certainly know what he can do, and it was great for him to show the world,” Australian captain Ollie Peake said post-match.

HKHDCCA / NDCC Junior Cricket Clinics at MTO – January 2026

Bruce Wood, President, Coaches’ Association (HKHDCCA), provided the following summary. The Coaches’ Association held two successful cricket clinics at Mark Taylor Oval, Waitara in January 2026, in partnership with Northern District CC. The total attendance of boys & girls was 191, making them the largest and most popular junior cricket clinics in Sydney. The Coaches’ Association has now held 93 junior cricket clinics in the school holidays since its inception in 2010.

HKHDCCA engaged 14 accredited coaches at each clinic in January, led by Connor Hindmarch (Head Coach).

The facilities at MTO are magnificent with the First Grade oval and award-winning Indoor Centre, thanks to NDCC and Hornsby Shire Council.

Congratulations to Oliver Halfhide from Kissing Point CC and Stirling Elliott from St Ives CC, for winning the prestigious Phillip Hughes Medal, which recognises outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, enthusiasm, performance and spirit of cricket.

HKHDCCA coaches, Nick Hook and Vivaan Gandhi, who have both played First Grade cricket this season, displayed their excellent batting skills in the Coaches’ Association’s MasterClass sessions.
