Spring has almost sprung … The grass has almost riz

Before we talk of all things happening for the 2026/27 season, below is a fantastic report from BlowFly Cricket about the winter program with a special mention to NDCC. We are so proud to be partners with such an incredible community organisation.

Program Overview The 2026 Winter Cricket Program continued to strengthen BlowFly Cricket’s commitment to

delivering inclusive, accessible, and enjoyable cricket opportunities for players of all abilities.

Across the winter period, the program maintained consistent participation, expanded engagement with new

families, and reinforced the club’s reputation as a leader in inclusive community sport.

Despite challenging weather conditions, attendance remained strong, and players demonstrated enthusiasm, resilience, and a clear desire to continue developing their cricket skills throughout the off-season.

Participation & Engagement The winter program attracted a diverse group of participants, including returning players from the summer season and several new members joining BlowFly Cricket for the first time.

Key participation outcomes:

Steady weekly attendance across the winter months
Increased involvement from parents, carers, and volunteers
Positive feedback from families regarding program structure and accessibility
Continued growth in player confidence and social engagement The winter sessions provided a valuable continuity point for players who benefit from routine, familiarity, and ongoing social connection.

Player Development: Winter Cricket offered a focused environment for skill consolidation and individual development. Coaches reported measurable progress across several core areas:

Batting: Improved stance, grip, and shot selection, with multiple players demonstrating increased confidence against faster bowling.
Bowling: Enhanced consistency in run-ups, release points, and accuracy. Several players achieved personal milestones in pace, spin control, and repeatable technique.
Fielding: Improvements in catching, ground fielding, and throwing accuracy.
Game Awareness: Stronger understanding oT positioning, communication, and basic match strategy.

These outcomes reflect the effectiveness of BlowFly Cricket’s inclusive coaching model, which prioritises individual progress, enjoyment, and adaptability.

Volunteer & Coaching Contributions The winter program was supported by a dedicated team of coaches and volunteers whose commitment ensured the delivery of safe, structured, and engaging sessions.

Key contributions included:

Adaptation of drills to suit varying abilities
Consistent supervision and encouragement
Assistance with setup, pack-down, and player support
Strengthening of the club’s welcoming and inclusive culture. BlowFly Cricket acknowledges

OVERSEAS NEWS

At the end of every season some of our players venture overseas for some “English Experience”. It has been a huge winter for many of our male Rangers in the UK!

There have been 11 tons – headlined by FIVE to Mitch Crayn, playing for Shepherds Bush CC, and three for Danul Dassanayake at Bexhill CC. Addison Sherriff, Spencer White and new Ranger Jack Attenborough have also scored a century each.

With the ball, First Grade spinner Jonty Webb has led the charge, claiming a mammoth 57 wickets for Foxton Granta CC. Addy Sherriff (41 wickets), Elijah Stead (23 wickets) and Jordan Fullagar (18 wickets) have also made an impact.

Congrats to our players on their UK seasons – we look forward to seeing you back home soon … and don’t forget to bring some of those stats back with you!

THE PAVILION WARMIMG UP!

The wall display cabinet at the top of the stairs is taking shape. So far we have the historic caps and jacket, annual reports from 1925 t0 2026, a plethora of SCA Spirit of Cricket award and plenty of Individual Cups. Many thanks to Ross Webb for driving the Centenary Match memorabilia (stumps, team photo, match ball, centenary cap, 1925 florins used for the toss and match summary plaque). Still to come: An “Austie Hughes” display including his OAM, and a tribute to the Australian Old Collegians signifying the strong connection with NDCC … AND … the long-awaited arrival of the new furniture due to make an appearance next Monday!

Adourning the walls is a huge photo of the oval taken in 1925 and photos of NDCC players who have represented Australia in Tests, ODIs or T20s.

NEXT PROJECT COMING UP IS A NEW ELECTRONIC SCOREBOARD

Enquiries are now being made into what screen and software are most suitable for our needs at MTO … A very exciting project to finish off the sporting precinct at Waitara Park.
